“Mad Lads”: 40+ Times People Acted Unhinged on the Internet

0

The internet is full of weird and fascinating things. Just when we’ve thought we’ve seen it all, we stumble across posts that have us questioning everything we thought we knew.

One subreddit group in particular called “madlads” is full of the maddest people on Reddit. It’s dedicated to “those bantasaurus rexes who can’t be contained”, and we can’t help but laugh at their hilarious posts. You’re not going to believe how ridiculous these people are!

Ricking Around

Those of us interested in the possibilities of intelligent life on other planets have probably spent some time imagining just what we’d say to the aliens if they ever made contact. How could we explain to them what life on our planet is like?

This Reddit user has decided that the best way to introduce Earth to our extra-terrestrial friends is with an unexpected serenade of Rick Astley’s infinitely meme-able hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”. We’re not disagreeing with them.

Love Bug

Anyone who has enjoyed a nature documentary will know that the drama of the natural world is truly captivating. Animals and insects lead lives full of ups and downs, and it’s hard for us humans to understand why they behave the way that they do.

We can understand why this beetle made such an arduous journey in the pursuit of love, taking down every other adversary in his way. However, what’s hard to fathom is why he then threw his mate off the tree as well. That’s some Shakespearean-level tragedy right there.

Heads Up

During the pandemic, we all spent a lot of time stuck inside, only seeing our friends and colleagues on Zoom. Let’s be honest, besides the grief and anxiety about a disease ravaging our communities, it was also a pretty boring time.

That meant that we had to get creative and make our own entertainment any way we could. We’re sure this guy brightened up his co-workers’ days no end with these hilarious green screen pranks.

Fiat Fail

Who remembers the Fiat Multipla? This distinctive family car, popular in the late nineties and early oughts, was praised for its practicality but slated for its looks.

These days, owners of these vehicles are trying to sell them and opting for something a little more attractive. We’re sure this poor person was excited when they saw Billy expressing interest, only to have him dash their hopes and insult them a few minutes later. What a troublemaker.

They Went There

Anyone who considers themself to be the funny one in the group will know the pain of when someone steals your joke and passes it off as their own. The feelings of outrage and injustice can last for years.

However, it seems to us that this Twitter post was kind of asking for it, and the number of Retweets and Likes is a testament to that.

Round Two

You can always rely on the best man to bring some cringy humor to the happy couple’s special day. His speech is known for being full of embarrassing anecdotes, designed to humiliate the groom.

But, this best man took things a little too far when he reminded everyone that this was not the groom’s first nuptials. We’re pretty sure he won’t be asked to be the best man at the third wedding.

Don’t Be Shellfish

Let’s talk barnacle bulges. It’s a fun little-known fact that a barnacle’s organ can extend up to eight times the length of its body, giving it the highest weenie-to-body ratio in the animal kingdom.

We were not expecting this hilarious reply from the inimitable actor and director Danny DeVito, but we have mad respect for this short king—4 feet 10 inches of pure legend.

Bending the Rules

The Bible prohibits a lot of things that many people would do without thinking today. However, if you’ve been raised in a religious household, then you might feel guilty about breaking some of those deep-rooted directives.

Fortunately, this Twitter user is here to remind us there is always a way around the rules and encourage us to follow their account for more creative interpretations of Christian doctrine. Thank you for your service, Fiona Applebum.

Not So Sweet

We all know that kids can get very attached to candy. Tantrums can break out if they are denied candy, they drop their candy, or heaven forbid, they lose their candy.

This parent is kindly helping their child search for his candy, knowing full well that those colorful little treats are already deep in their belly. Now that is playing with fire. We hope those Skittles were worth it.

Parenting Hack

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs. From keeping your kids safe and healthy to guiding them through life’s challenges and helping them grow into compassionate, fulfilled little humans, it’s no wonder that most parents are exhausted.

This dad has come up with an ingenious way of helping his kids unlock their creativity while getting some well-earned shut-eye. We’re definitely going to try this one.

Photo Bomb

Because of advances in image editing and photo software, it’s now possible to edit out the parts of photos that we might not be so happy with. If someone has photobombed your new profile pic, then it’s never been easier to magically erase them.

This girl asked James to help her remove the gardener from her image, and he took her instructions in a different direction. He definitely made his point.

Being Edgy

In this age of fake news and disinformation, nearly all of us can say we know a conspiracy theorist. From believers in lizard people to fake moon landings, there are plenty of people who have decided to follow, what seems from the outside, a pretty bizarre version of the “truth”.

This guy decided to take his chances in a Flat Earth Facebook group, and it wasn’t long before they realized he was just there to tease them. They might not have fallen yet but this definitely pushed them over the edge.

That’s Cold

It’s always a gamble sending a follow request to a private Instagram account because you have to face the sting of rejection if the person doesn’t accept you as a follower.

Not only did this girl get rejected, but she also had to watch the rejection in real-time. That’s got to hurt but at least she tried. Better luck next time, hon.

Turn a Deaf Ear

Families can be a lot. Sometimes, all the nagging just gets to be too much and we wish we had a way of finding the off switch.

This little brother has done just that, making the most of his hearing impairment to just tune out the noise when he doesn’t want to hear it anymore. Honestly, this is genius and we agree with his sister that this kid is a king.

Tone Deaf

We all have that one person in the friendship group who’s known to be a bit of a prankster. You know you have to watch yourself around them, otherwise, you’ll fall victim to yet another practical joke.

Unfortunately (and hilariously), it took these two a few minutes of overly enunciating to realize they were being had. At least it’s a funny story, and, we hope, the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Zoom Inception

Back in the days when every meeting was conducted on Zoom, we all experienced multiple online meeting interruptions. Whether it was someone entering the room in a state of undress to your kid saying something embarrassing in front of your manager, Zoom interruptions were always hilarious moments.

This guy has decided to immortalize those moments forever with this awesome background, which will definitely leave the other Zoom participants scratching their heads in confusion.

Motel California

It’s one thing to be caught cheating on your wife, but it’s entirely different to be accused of cheating when you’re just trying to visit your family for the weekend. How was this man supposed to defend himself when the other person already made up their mind?

This poor guy was only trying to surprise his wife. The real question to be asking is, who’s this meddlesome person getting in the middle of this guy’s relationship?

Self Service

With 7.7 billion people on the planet, it’s difficult to think of something that no one, not even one person, is doing at any given moment. This Reddit user was so full of self-loathing, however, that he was convinced that no one would be thinking of him when they were…flying solo.

Luckily, Reddit can be a supportive community when it needs to be and so his statement wasn’t true for long. It’s sweet in a disturbing way.

If You Know, You Know

It’s an uncomfortable truth of modern society that most kids get all their knowledge of relationships from adult videos. So much so that when this kid sneaked the intro of a popular video website into his school concert, the crowd went wild.

We wonder which teachers knew exactly what was going on but decided to stay silent to save their reputations. We’re guessing it was more than a few.

Age is But a Number

From the cinnamon challenge to the ice bucket challenge, internet trends come and go and plenty of people, both young and old, may decide to participate.

However, this post proves that you have to be prepared to be taken down by a 13-year-old kid if you decide to join in. The “number neighbor” trend seems pretty tame and harmless if you ask us, but that didn’t stop this tween from destroying someone 10 years older than him. That put her in her place.

Panini Ninja

School is a time for learning, making friends, and yes, a time for schoolyard side hustles to supplement your allowance. Dan the Panini Man thought he had come up with a failsafe business plan until campus police shut him down for health and safety reasons.

But Dan was not to be deterred and came up with a clever way to keep giving the people what they wanted. We agree with the commenter—this plucky student is the stuff of legends.

Lost in Translation

We’ve all seen those tattoos in Mandarin or Sanskrit and been assured by the people who have them that they mean love, peace, freedom, or something equally “meaningful”.

However, we can’t help but wonder whether the tattooists really knew what they were branding on someone’s skin for the rest of their lives. This person can’t translate Chinese tattoos, but they’re clearly having fun stirring the pot and we don’t blame them.

Light Show

We all know that companies sometimes have to make cuts, however, it can be devastating for the employees whose jobs are in danger.

These workers at a large brewery in England decided to take a stand when they heard their jobs were on the line. Luckily, the name of the company lent itself well to the cause, and we’re impressed with how clearly the protesters were able to get their message across.

Blown Away

Ahh the art of glass blowing—it’s amazing to behold and we can understand why you’d want to watch the masters at work in your “Art Appreciation Class”. But we weren’t expecting this level of tomfoolery from this glass-blowing grandad.

Come Christmas day, we’re sure this grandson is going to be shocked and impressed by how down with the kids his grandad really is.

Bathroom Prankster

From gluing a coin to the pavement to handing out fake parking tickets, there are many harmless pranks you can play on the public if you’re in need of some entertainment.

But we haven’t seen this one before and we are going to need to try it out. We love that this person just keeps a stash of these stickers around for when they’re bored. We’d love to watch the confused people talking to the paper towel dispenser any day of the week.

Netflix and Skills

We’re guessing that there’s not a Netflix account in existence that doesn’t have a profile for at least one person who’s too stingy to pay for their own account. Even when couples break up, it usually takes a while before the Netflix owner decides enough is enough and cuts their ex off from watching their favorite shows.

This girl has been lurking for months on her ex-boyfriend’s family account, concealed by this genius disguise. For that ingenuity, we say she should be allowed to stay.

Touché

During the pandemic, we all got used to attending classes via Zoom. It was a struggle for teachers to get their students to take things seriously, pay attention, and stop turning up for class in their pajamas. This guy took things one step further and turned up wearing no shirt whatsoever.

Although the tutor tried to discipline this rebel, he was one step ahead, with a similarly unclothed profile pic ready to go. Someone really wants his classmates to see his six-pack.

Telling it Straight

Kids often offer up hard truths, whether they mean to or not. They aren’t old enough to know which questions are appropriate, and what’s most refreshing is that they also have no prejudice.

This nephew doesn’t even blink when his uncle reveals his preferences, but he still demands to know why he doesn’t have a partner. Time for Uncle Mike to take a long, hard look at his life.

Hashtag No Filter

When it comes to dating apps, many people use filters to make their photos more airbrushed, and they hope, more appealing to the people swiping left and right. Although this might lead to disappointment later on, it’s hard to present pure, unedited photos when everyone else is filtered to perfection.

This guy decided to take the Mickey and post a bunch of photos of himself holding different filters. We love his identical unamused impression in each one. We’re sure a woman with a great sense of humor is messaging him right now.

Trust Issues

Teachers have the power to make or break you. They can either inspire you to learn and explore and become the best version of yourself, or they can discourage you and make you feel hopeless.

This student was obviously doing well with their studies, but their teacher decided they needed to be taught a lesson. We’re not sure we agree with her methods but we’re sure that they were on best behavior from that day on.

Just Because

Sometimes there are things in life that you have to do, just because they make sense. Maybe no one is telling you to do them, or paying you, but there is something deep within you that tells you this is the right thing to do.

We have to assume that this is the case for this 7/11 king. We’re just glad to see he is getting the recognition he deserves with more than 800,000 views and counting.

Keeping it in the Family

Family WhatsApp groups are a place where you can turn when things get tough and you know your family will be there for you. Yes, there might be some family drama, but it’s usually worth it for the support, both monetary and otherwise.

However, this uncle decided he wanted to make sure that no family members came scrounging to him when they were down on their luck by making them think he was hard up. We might have to use that one.

Medieval Maverick

In elementary school, it’s hard for kids to be individuals. Not behaving like everyone else can make kids feel left out or even result in them being bullied.

But some kids decide to follow their own path, regardless of the consequences, and express themselves for who they really are. This tiny plague doctor really embraced Medieval dress-up day and we can only hope that he won the best costume prize.

Eat That

We all had sworn enemies at high school—classmates who seemed to exist to make our lives a misery and we, theirs. Sometimes, we managed to reconcile and other times, those rivalries lasted years.

We’re pretty sure these two haven’t made up, given the impressively specific evil of this revenge. We’re sure that it was the most painful $24 this kid had ever spent.

Q and A

Ah, the magic of editing. This person on Reddit decided to let people get creative to make him look like an absolute jerk and the results are hilariously outrageous.

It makes you wonder how many of the other posts we share have been edited, but still, this is a great exercise and the OP is such a good sport for letting people send him up in the most innovative ways possible.

Nailed It

Any woman can tell you that finding a friendly and reliable nail tech is a godsend and we wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. However, Cong is obviously playing with fire with this practical joke.

We have to hand it to him for this one, although we’d hope that his wife would send a slightly more sensitive message if her husband really had passed away. We have a feeling he’s going to get a talking-to next time this girl has a nail appointment, although we’re sure she’s also just grateful that he’s alive.

Pool Party

We remember the days when it was considered a big insult to call someone a member of the LGBT+ community. When racing to jump into the pool to avoid being labeled, this boy realized that if he simply didn’t jump, his brother would be the last one in.

Let’s hope that these siblings have both accepted each other for who they are and are living authentic lives with plenty of pool parties for everyone.

Peak Power

The English don’t really have any really tall mountains, so we can understand why they would be cheesed off that someone has chiseled a few inches off their tallest peak in the name of art.

The comment thread here is hilarious, and we have to agree with the Tumblr user inquiring what the Cumbria council is going to do once they get the little triangle of rock back. Can you glue mountains back together?

Happy Thanksgiving

When family members start messing with your relationship, it’s only a matter of time before you feel compelled to get them back. At least, that’s what happened to Aunt Sheryl’s nephew when she started having an affair.

This plan is so elaborate and we would kill to be a fly on the wall when Kevin arrives at Thanksgiving dinner, only to find his mistress and her husband there. We’re giving thanks right now that we’re not Kevin.

Hands Up

When classes moved to Zoom, we all had to get used to life without the normal quirks of the classroom. No more could you whisper to your neighbor, teeter on your chair, or write notes to your buddies.

However, this trailblazer decided to make use of one of the features of Zoom to remind us all of the classic hand raise-turned-stretch and we are here for it. We bet the teacher had to stifle a smile too.

Tinderella

These days, those of us who are single are most likely searching for our other half on the apps. Yes, it’s not ideal but it’s a convenient way to put yourself out there and it’s what everyone else is doing.

It definitely seems like everyone’s on Tinder according to this post. Not only are all these men looking for the woman of their dreams on the app, but they’ve also all matched with the same woman. All we can say is she definitely has a type!

Throwing Shade

Kumail Nanjiani is a Pakistani-American actor and stand-up comedian, and we’re sure he’s received his fair share of ignorant and crude comments, such as the one shown in this post.

But the seasoned comedian has a whip-smart reply up his sleeve that would make any commenter cower in their boots. Yes, it might be a childish response, but a childish question deserves a fitting come-back. Nice one, Kumail.

Slice, Slice Baby

Break-ups are hard. The memories of those difficult conversations can stay with us forever, so we understand why this guy wouldn’t have wanted to have the debrief conversation with his ex-wife at a place that he loved.

We love that he has stuck to his guns and never returned to the scene of the crime. Let’s hope he has found someone new to enjoy a superior slice with.

Chain Reaction

Any cyclists out there will know just how devastating it is when your beloved set of wheels gets stolen. However, this girl was lucky enough to spot her very bike being sold online.

We’re sure the bike thief was totally nonplussed at this taste of his own medicine and hats off to this girl for having the nerve to get back what was rightfully hers. Her proud smile says it all.

A Mother’s Love

If we’re lucky, our moms are proud of us no matter what our achievements are. They are there offering steadfast support, ready to celebrate every win, however big or small.

This open-minded mom wasn’t going to miss her son’s first red carpet, even though it was for some work that she might have had a little trouble with. We just hope they didn’t have to sit through a screening together.

Pillow Pals

Our kids often think they’ve discovered things for the first time that their parents have known about for years. Like this dad, any good parent will allow their kids to explain things to them in their own words and have the chance to “teach” their moms and dads something new.

However, this dad decided that after his pillow fighting lesson was done, he was going to show his son that he wasn’t a novice in the world of battling with soft furnishings. That’ll teach him.

Checkmate

It’s never a good idea to lie on your resume or your dating profile, but it’s something that a lot of people do. This guy suddenly realized he needed to learn chess in double-quick time if he wanted to continue to impress his girl.

Luckily, help was at hand in the form of this wily Twitter user who had the answer up his sleeve. So simple and yet we never thought of it—we’re definitely going to try this one if anyone ever challenges us to an online chess game.

Face Palm

In our world of fake news and disinformation, it can be hard to know what can be relied on as real and what has been manipulated using technology.

This girl figured that screenshots were pretty reliable forms of proof, but this interaction must have given her a rude awakening. Even though it’s immature we applaud the guy who made the edits—comedy and education about cyber safety all rolled into one package.

Street View Legend

It’s funny to think that Google Street View has frozen thousands of moments in time of people going about their daily lives. If you know where to look, you can find all sorts of funny scenarios and this is one of the best.

If you made this symbol in grade school and someone accidentally looked directly at it, you were allowed to punch them in the arm. Hats off to this mad lad, and for goodness sake, don’t look directly at his hand.

Ghosted

It’s a peculiarity of the modern world that when we die, our social media profiles, our phones, and other online presences continue unless someone cancels them. In the hands of the wrong person, this is a dangerous thing.

We really hope this guy didn’t get up to any mischief with his deceased cousin’s SIM card because this is just too dark. It adds a whole new meaning to the word “ghosted”.
