A protest erupted at Columbia University while the school president testified before Congress about antisemitism. Protesters carrying Palestinian flags demanded an end to Israeli actions in Gaza and accused the university of having investments that support Israel.
Videos showed the protest getting heated, with some people lighting flares. At least four people were arrested by police. The university said the tents set up by the protesters violated school rules and asked them to leave.
Lawmakers in Congress also discussed antisemitism on college campuses. They questioned Columbia’s handling of a professor who praised a Hamas attack and of students who participated in a protest with a speaker linked to terrorism.
