Life’s tough, no doubt about it. Especially nowadays, it’s like one big headache, you know? We’re all just trying to figure things out the best we can, and sometimes it feels like a personal battle. Especially us women, always feeling like we have to apologize for speaking our minds or going after what we want. And don’t even get me started on social media—it’s like this black hole that sucks you in and makes you doubt yourself.

We’re constantly wondering how we can be better, and do better. But it’s like, even when we’re giving it our all, it never seems like it’s enough. So, when we talked to Lacretta from Night Court and she said, “I don’t read reviews. I want to protect my mental health,” it hit home. Putting herself first like that was seriously inspiring.

After hearing Lacretta’s take, it hit home for me that it’s okay to prioritize my well-being and keep my sanity intact. It got me thinking, how can other women do this without feeling guilty?

Lacretta was straight-up about it “Society throws so much at us, no matter who we are. And depending on our looks or where we stand financially, the pressure just keeps piling on. But you know what? Sometimes you just gotta say screw it. Seriously, there comes a time when you need to shake off all that pressure. Take 20 minutes every day, no excuses. It doesn’t matter what you do with that time, as long as it’s something you want.

She continued, Sometimes you just need to take a moment to breathe, maybe sip water. Take 20 minutes to chill, maybe sip some water, play a quick video game, or listen to your favorite tunes. It’s like a timeout from all the other stuff you gotta deal with – bills, work, and those annoying people you have to listen to. Seriously, you gotta carve out that time for yourself. Trust me, I’ve been there. I used to try to please everyone, be a top-notch friend to folks who didn’t deserve it, and listen to all the gossip about me. It got to a point where it all got too much, and I just lost it.

She finished by saying, I can’t always drop everything because I’ve got people I care about. I’ve gotta guard my energy, you know? Sometimes, I just gotta say, ‘Sorry, but I can’t do that. I need this time for myself.’ Being a Pisces and an empath, things can get crazy overwhelming. If we don’t set those boundaries and take that time for ourselves, we’re gonna end up like that high school girl, on the verge of a breakdown. We gotta learn to say ‘No’ sometimes. It’s crucial, ’cause hey, I can’t bail you out of jail! [laughs] You gotta handle your own stuff, keep yourself sane and safe. And honestly, that’s some of the best advice I’ve heard in a while.
