Bruins Third in NCAA Regionals Day Two

The UCLA women’s golf team, ranked fourth, had a great day at the NCAA Las Vegas Regional on Tuesday. They played at the Spanish Trail Country Club. In the second round, they shot a fantastic five-under 283.

After two days of competition, the Bruins are holding onto the third position overall, with a score of two-under. They’re currently trailing No. 9 Arkansas by 14 strokes, as Arkansas leads the leaderboard. So, Purdue is in second place, trailing Arkansas by four strokes.

Lottie Woad from Florida State is currently leading the individual standings. She shot a remarkable 67 in her second round, bringing her total score to 10-under.

On Tuesday, two players from the Bruins golf team scored under par, with Zoe Antoinette Campos leading the charge. She posted an impressive seven-under 65. Before the day began, Campos was at even-par for the tournament.

However, she delivered her best performance yet, finishing with a total of -7 for the day. Campos managed to achieve this without a single bogey or worse on her scorecard. So, she secured seven birdies throughout the round.

Campos’s exceptional performance included a streak of four consecutive birdies on holes four through seven. Additionally, she birdied holes 10, 13, and 15. Her outstanding round catapulted her up the leaderboard, advancing her 10 spots to third place overall. While, she now trails the leader by just three strokes as the tournament heads into its final round.

Meghan Royal made the most significant leap up the leaderboard among all Bruins on the second day of competition. So, Royal’s performance was highlighted by her score of two-under 70 on Tuesday. This impressive round propelled her 21 spots up the leaderboard, placing her in a tie for 35th position in the overall tournament standings.

During her round, Royal recorded a total of five birdies, three bogeys, and 10 pars. Despite facing some challenges, she managed to maintain her composure and deliver a solid performance, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Royal’s notable improvement demonstrates her skill and determination on the course.

Caroline Canales concluded Tuesday’s round with a score of two-over par. As of now, she is tied for 21st place on the leaderboard. Kate Villegas finished the day with a five-over score, bringing her tournament total to +3, which has her tied for 25th place overall.

Natalie Vo posted a two-over 74 on Tuesday, placing her at seven-over for the tournament. So, this places her in a tie for 47th place in the current standings.

So, tomorrow morning, the UCLA golf team will commence the final round, starting on the first hole at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
