Federal Judge Aileen Cannon rejected a request from special counsel Jack Smith to limit Donald Trump’s comments in the classified documents case. She said prosecutors didn’t work with Trump’s lawyers in a respectful and professional way. Cannon criticized prosecutors for not following court rules by not discussing the potential gag order with Trump’s lawyers in a meaningful way. She denied the request, but allowed prosecutors to try again if they give Trump’s team enough time to review and discuss the motion. Cannon warned that failure to comply may result in penalties. Despite quickly ruling on this matter, she has yet to decide on several other motions in the case, which is moving slowly towards trial.
