This world is full of dogs who want to be loved no matter what.
It breaks my heart that some cruel people hurt them and make them afraid.
A beautiful dog named Mable had no idea how soft and caring a human touch could be.
They were mean to her and hurt her. The cute dog turned into a scared dog who stopped believing in people.
Thankfully, the dog was saved from being abused and taken to a shelter.
When the shelter workers first saw Mable, they were sad. She was shaking so badly from fear. Her sad eyes were getting darker.
The staff tried to comfort her by massaging her, but she wouldn’t let them get close. She was always afraid they would hurt her.
The scared dog didn’t know what love was.
Mable Meets Her Foster Mom
Angela Marie started Angela’s Ark, an animal shelter in Wyoming and a rescue group in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The person who saved Mable saw how scared she was in her beautiful eyes the first time she met her.
“It was clear in her eyes the first time I saw her.” Angela told The Dodo, “It’s like she wanted to go away.”
The kind person who saved her knew she had to take her in and care for her. Her goal was to help Mable deal with her worry.
Angela set up a crate for the puppy so she could relax. She tried to talk to Mable, but the dog always wanted to run away when she got close.
It was Mable’s habit to hide in the corner of the box, shake, and avoid looking at her foster mom.
Angela took Mable to the beach in the hopes that it would help her, but she didn’t like walking. She couldn’t calm down.
The dog kept thinking that something bad was going to happen the whole time. Mable had her ears back and her tail tucked in.
Trying To Mend Mable’s Broken Heart
The savior with a big heart wanted to help Mable. She fed her by hand while sitting on the floor with her. She praised and encouraged the puppy all the time.
Little by little, Mable got used to her new mom. The puppy was watched, though, and still jumped when her foster mom tried to pet her.
Angela started to notice a lot of small steps forward after months of trying to earn Mable’s trust.
When the dog did her first zoomies in their yard, she shocked her mom. Mable was free to run. She seemed to have forgotten about her past at that moment.
Angela was thrilled and couldn’t believe Mable was so happy.
The cute dog felt at ease when she went for walks with her mom. She stopped tucking her tail in, and she started to enjoy her freedom and the beautiful world around her.
Rejoicing At The Pup’s Milestones
The person who saved her will always remember the first time Mable asked her to play. The dog came up to her with a smile on its face. She jumped up and down and wagged her tail.
Angela thinks of it as the first important step in their relationship.
Mable needed some time to understand that her new mom loved her and would not hurt her.
“The first time I could pet Mable, I sat down next to her on the floor and stroked her gently. Then I would take my hand off of her.” Angela said, “I tried to do that over and over again so she could get used to being touched and understand that it wouldn’t hurt.”
She is proud of Mable and how far she has come.
“Seeing how different Mable is now from the dog she was at the shelter is probably my favorite part of this whole thing.” Every day, I see that dog at the rescue less and less. “The little accomplishments are something I will always be so proud of her for,” Angela said.
Mable has been living with her wonderful foster mom for almost a year. She is now ready to start looking for her forever home.
The dog wants to meet great people who will understand her, help her, and love her forever.
Mable should have a happy finish after everything she’s been through.
