Erika Girardi, also known as Erika Jayne, deeply cares for her son Tommy Zizzo, whom she had during her first marriage in 1992. Despite Erika’s fame, Tommy remains private. In 1992, Girardi and her first husband had a son. Shortly after his birth, Zizzo’s parents got divorced. Girardi, who was 20 at the time, left New York City and went to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming a performer.
“It was the biggest risk I’ve ever taken,” Girardi told PEOPLE about her decision to move. This meant Zizzo stayed with his father in N.Y.C. for a while. The temporary separation “weighed heavy on my heart,” she said.
“I was panicked, but I was determined to succeed. And I knew he would eventually join me here,” Girardi explained.
Fans say he and his mom “look alike”
Girardi has only posted photos of her son on Instagram twice, and the first time she did, she couldn’t help but notice how much they look alike.
“People say we look alike,” the Bravolebrity captioned the photo of Zizzo in his police uniform. “No, you can’t comment,” she added with a laughing emoji, mentioning that she disabled the comments section for that post.
The 2020 Instagram post was Zizzo’s first appearance on his mom’s grid and it turned out to be Girardi’s “best-performing post.” Even Cohen was surprised by her decision to share the photo publicly.
“I am a proud mom of my essential worker son,” she told Cohen in 2020. She also mentioned feeling a bit “quarantine crazy” when she posted it.
“He’s out there working like every other man and woman,” Girardi continued. “It’s just a crazy time. We’re all concerned for all of our families.”
Tom Girardi’s indictment brought the mother-son pair closer together
In 2020, Girardi and her second husband were sued for allegedly misusing funds. Girardi was cleared, but her husband faced charges in 2023. During a Bravo Insider segment in 2022, Girardi shared how her legal troubles strengthened her bond with her son, Zizzo.
“My son has been amazing,” she said. “The silver lining to all of this mess is that our relationship is stronger. He’s an adult now, and his perspective is really nice.
He gets to have a say in who his mom dates
Girardi says any new serious partner needs her son Zizzo’s approval first. In a 2022 interview, she mentioned she wouldn’t marry someone without her son’s okay. Zizzo even checks in with her if he sees photos of her with someone he doesn’t know.
“One time he called me up, like, ‘Are you dating this guy?’ I was like, ‘No, what’s going on?’ He was like, ‘Alright, I saw it somewhere,’ ” Girardi recalled.
This made her realize how much she values her son’s opinion on her dating life.
“I wouldn’t marry someone my son didn’t like,” she added.
He was reportedly in a serious car crash in 2021

She didn’t have many details to offer at that moment and chose not to disclose her son’s condition out of respect for his privacy.
