Nowadays, many men, especially actors, singers, and other celebs, become fathers at 50, 60, 70, or even older. They start to think about getting a kid only after 40, which is understandable, taking into account their jobs. But the older you get, the less time you have to see your babies grow up and make something of their life.
Remember: just because people like Mick Jagger and Robert De Niro decided to have kids after 70, it doesn’t mean a regular Joe Shmoe should follow their lead. You have to be ready for parenthood. Let’s look at some iconic celebrities who became fathers at the very young age of 70+.
George Lucas at 70
Even though this list is for gentlemen of 70 years and up, we couldn’t skip the legendary filmmaker George Lucas due to such a small technicality. He became a father in 2013 at the age of 69. Lucas and his wife welcomed a daughter named Everest Hobson Lucas, who’s brought so much joy into their lives. Despite his reputation as a creative genius, Lucas finds a sense of purpose in fatherhood, embracing the role of a loving and involved dad.
Charlie Chaplin at 73
Charlie Chaplin was a very prolific actor and ever more loving dad. He had eight kids with four different wives, and his youngest child, Christopher Chaplin, was born in 1962 when Charlie was 73 years old.
James Doohan at 80
James Doohan, best known as “Scotty” from Star Trek, became a father at the age of 80. He had a daughter named Sarah in 2000. Despite his age, Doohan embraced fatherhood and did his best to forge a special bond with his zoomer daughter.
Mick Jagger at 73
The iconic frontman of The Rolling Stones welcomed a son named Deveraux in 2016 at the age of 73. Mick Jagger’s late fatherhood just proves that the spirit of rock’n’roll in him is always alive and kicking. Even today, Jagger continues to balance his legendary music career with his family life.
David Foster at 70
Canadian musician and producer David Foster became a father at the age of 70. In 2020, his wife gave birth to their daughter named Rennie. Even though Foster had a baby to raise and look after, he still found time to hone his craft and bring some joy to his fans.
Richard Gere at 70
Richard Gere needs no introduction, but in case you didn’t know, he’s an accomplished actor and humanitarian who also happened to become a father at 70. In 2019, Gere’s wife, Alejandra Silva, brought baby Alexander into this world. It just shows that it’s never too late if you share your life with the right person.
Robert De Niro at 79
79-year-old Robert De Niro announced a few days ago that he just became a father for the seventh time. He and his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, had a daughter on April 6. De Niro has already revealed the baby’s name – Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, which sounds absolutely wicked.
Bernie Ecclestone at 89
And lastly, we have the legendary 89 years old former owner of “Formula-1” Bernie Ecclestone, who became a father again in 2020. He is 92 years old, but looks like he’s 60 at most! There has to be some black magic involved here; otherwise, we need to clone this guy and run some genetic tests.
Ernest Lehman at 86
While there have been older fathers – Julio Iglesias’s padre was dead at 90 when his fourth and final child was born – none are quite as famous as Ernest Lehman. Granted, Lehman himself is hardly a household name, but he was a successful Hollywood screenwriter who wrote North by Northwest and many other classics, including West Side Story, The Sound of Music, The King and I, Sabrina, and Sweet Smell of Success. Lehman’s son Jonathan was born in 2002; Lehman died three years later at 89.
