House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan argued that releasing recordings of Joe Biden’s interview with Robert Hur is necessary because written transcripts cannot be trusted. Jordan said this is because the White House has a history of altering transcripts.
He pointed to an incident in April where Biden accidentally read “pause” from his teleprompter during a speech. The White House later released a transcript that did not include the mistake. Jordan believes this shows that the interview transcripts might not be accurate.
Jordan emphasised that audio and video recordings are the best evidence of what President Biden actually said. He criticised the Department of Justice for refusing to release the recordings, essentially asking the committee to trust that the transcripts are accurate and complete. This is especially concerning since the White House and Biden’s lawyers likely had access to the transcripts before they were finalised.
