Even though these rescuers and big dog fans had been through a lot of bad things, nothing could have prepared them for what they were about to see.
That day, walkers in the nearby forest told them that they had found a mother dog that had been left behind in a small barrel and was in terrible shape.
No matter how quickly they got there it took them up to three hours they got there in the end. When they finally got there, what they saw broke their hearts.
Immense Suffering
When the rescuers got close to the box that had been left on the side of the road, they saw a mother dog curled up inside it with her puppies.
They could tell she was scared because her eyes were mostly sad, and she had a good reason for that. The people who came to help saw that four of the puppies had already left the barrel when they looked more closely.
Even though it was hard for them not to cry, they quickly got themselves together and decided to do everything they could to help the poor mother dog and her six children.
When they got to the vet clinic, the doctors saw the mother dog right away and told them she was in serious condition. She was thirsty and had an infection from giving birth.
The worst thing about her, though, was how she was feeling, which was most obvious in her eyes, which were filled with deep sadness. The good news is that her babies gave her the strength to get through it all.
She wasn’t able to get out of bed for several days, but she used what little power she had left to make milk for her puppies. One of them was still very weak, but most of them were slowly getting better.
More Bad News
It had been five days, but the mother dog finally got out of bed. Everyone in the clinic believed that day was the beginning of better times. Unfortunately, bad news came to them that very day.
The smallest puppy didn’t make it. He died that day and went to the rainbow bridge. The mother dog was fully broken, and her condition got worse all of a sudden.
The doctors found that the infection had gotten worse when they checked her out again. She had to go through a hard surgery because of that.
After the surgery went well, her puppies were close by, and they gave her the strength to get through all of this again.
She really wanted to hug them, but she couldn’t. The vets saw tears in her eyes right away. The people who worked at the clinic were also in a lot of pain. They couldn’t help but wonder if any bad luck would skip over this poor dog.
However, this made them want to help the mother dog and her puppies even more so that they could have better times together as soon as possible.
Luckily, those times were closer than they thought.
Happy Ending After All
The mother dog could eat again and feed her puppies the very next day, the day after the big surgery. She already had more energy, but what really made them happy was that they could finally see hope in her eyes.
Their minds were clear at that moment: this was her new start. To respect this, they chose the name Amelia for her.
Amelia was a whole new dog after just a few days. She looked very happy because she got better so quickly. But her children, who were full of life and slowly turned into healthy, happy dogs, made her the happiest.
Soon, Amelia and her puppies were ready for their new lives. The most beautiful parts of their stay in the clinic were over very quickly. Neither the puppies nor their mother had to wait long for their happy ends.
She found happiness with the people who started the hardest part of her life. Again, her heroes saved her, but this time it was for good.
