Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: In a tragic accident a mid-air collision between two Malaysian Navy Helicopter has resulted in the deaths of all crew members on board. The incident which was captured on camera by a bystander, occurred earlier yesterday 23/04/2024.
Details regarding the cause of the collision are still emerging. The Malaysian Armed Forces have launched a full investigation to determine what led to the mishap. They have also not yet released information on the number of personnel who perished in the crash.
The grainy footage circulating on social media shows the two aircraft colliding in MidAir, resulting in a fiery explosion. The impact sends debris scattering across the landscape. Emergency crews are on the scene and a search and recovery operation is underway.
TLDM confirms that 2 of their helicopters crashed. There are no survivors.
Here’s a breakdown of the incident:
- Loss of Life: All ten crew members, seven from the AgustaWestland AW139 and three from the Eurocopter AS555SN Fennec, perished in the crash.
- Cause of Crash: The two helicopters collided while practicing for a flyover in celebration of the upcoming 90th Navy Day.
- Crash Site: The Agusta crashed on the stadium stairs, while the Fennec plunged into the sports complex swimming pool.
- Investigation: TLDM has formed a team to investigate the cause of the accident.
This is a devastating loss for the TLDM and the families of the crew members. The bodies have been transported to the Lumut naval base hospital for identification.
