It’s amazing how dogs, going through the worst of their life, nevertheless find hope. They seem to be aware that wonderful moments arrive regardless of circumstance.
The dog in the narrative of today experienced just that. He thought his life was about to turn around for the better, hence even after being abandoned he understood that was no justification for letting go of his smile.
Abandoned But Not Afraid
It is my privilege to present you to Goose, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose soul stayed brilliant even at his lowest.
Goose was discovered bound to a fence one fateful day carrying a sad message from his former owners that they no longer wanted him.
Since he never stopped his brilliant smile, the two onlookers who wanted to adopt him never even considered that he was left all alone.
One of them resolved to be more than just a spectator after learning of his terrible end and how his spirit never gave in. She reached out a tender hand and volunteered to adopt him.
He really likes people. When he saw someone coming up to him, he was just hoping to be loved on.
Said Lindsey Hawkins, the replacement foster mother for Goose.
Hawkins claimed that the message she came upon on Goose read:
Not time at hand. Just get the dog.
She also performed just that!
She first brought him to the neighborhood veterinarian, though, since he was pretty unclean and totally tick covered.
Keeping this in mind, the team of vets tending to Goose decided to give him a complete cleaning over several days so that he wouldn’t grow overly upset.
Goose never stopped grinning, no matter his condition.
Over all of it, he never once displayed a trace of hostility. He recognized, I believe, that we were essentially attempting to assist him.
Wait until you see this dog’s smile when he finds out he is good to go home; if you believed his smile couldn’t be any more bigger.
New Life
Though Lindsey was eager to bring him to her house and be his temporary foster mother, Goose had other ideas.
He persisted in trying to climb from the back of my SUV to the front seat and finally on my lap during the entire ride home.
Lindsey discovered that Goose had spent his entire life outside when they at last arrived home. He avoided hardwood flooring at all costs and was too terrified to approach any furniture.
He basically limited himself to the carpeted hallways or the living room rug.
Still, Goose adapted to his new environment really quickly. He grew inseparable with his new siblings in a few days—a herd of chickens and a senior therapy dog, Zeus.
Lindsay knew he would be staying when she observed their harmony.
The day we made the decision to classify him as a permanent resident As if he were saying, “Thank you,” [Goose] raised up on his hind legs put his front paws on my husband’s shoulders and buried his head into his chest.
After just two weeks at his new house, Goose started to view living indoors quite differently. He no longer finds difficulty stepping on Hawkins’ wooden flooring and enjoys jumping on her bed as though it were his own.
Final Word
Despite all the hardships this dog faced, he never let go of that contagious smile of his. It’s truly inspiring to witness his unwavering spirit and resilience.
He is even thinking about following in the paw prints of his brother, Zeus, and becoming a therapy dog. I am most certain that he will be amazing at it, spreading comfort, joy, and love with his unbreakable spirit.
