For the second time, House of the Dragon on HBO is over. There is a lot of talk about the TV show that is based off of Game of Thrones.
Fans have had a range of responses to this season, but most agree on one thing: a little dog named Bobby was the real MVP.
Yes, the dog stole the show and won hearts all over the world, even in a show full of epic dragons that breathe fire. Then who is this dog actor? He made it big in Hollywood very quickly after being a stray.
Bobby: “House of the Dragon” breakout star
Bobby’s first appearance in Westeros happened in the first episode of Season 2. In the episode, two people called “Blood and Cheese” are told to sneak into the castle and kill the king, Aemond Targaryen. They take the dog with them.
Soon, the ratcatcher Cheese will kick the poor dog. Things quickly turn into a much worse act of violence (we won’t say what it is), but many fans were more worried about the dog:
“Oh, that’s sad,” I thought as I watched people die on the show.
Remember how Team Green said for months that Blood and Cheese would be worse and have a bigger effect than the Red Wedding? Well, people are more upset about the dog getting kicked. “House of the Dragon”
There are some very violent scenes in Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, but the rat catcher hitting the dog and making him cry out in pain was another level of violence that wasn’t needed and doesn’t add anything to the story or the movie.
Yes, even for fans of a series known for shocking turns and gory violence (remember The Red Wedding?) dog abuse was too much.
The actor Mark Stobbart, who played Cheese on the show, had to share a behind-the-scenes picture of himself and dog actor Bobby to tell people that no animals were hurt while the show was being made.
“Let’s not worry about the dog!” It was great to be friends, Stobbart wrote on Instagram. “No dogs were thrown out in anger.” Sorry, but Bobby’s act might have been too real for some fans to handle. However, the scene got good reviews from both critics and people who work on the show.
Author of the fantasy series that inspired Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, George R.R. Martin, said that Bobby did a great job, pointing out that he was a new character that didn’t appear in any of his books.
“I’m…” I don’t like it when screenwriters add people to the original story when they adapt it… Martin wrote on his blog, “But that dog was great.”

Cheese already made me hate him, but when he kicked that dog, it made me hate him even more. And then, when the dog sat down at his feet and looked up, that almost broke my heart. What a tiny thing! What a tiny dog! However, the few short minutes he was on screen gave the ratcatcher a lot of heart.
“People are such complicated beings.” Our thoughts were with that dog, which told us that even the most vile and dishonest men can love and be loved.
The episode’s director, Clare Kilner, said the same thing. “Oh my God, we have to get him at Cheese’s feet,” I said. According to USA Today, she said, “Because dogs are so loyal.” “He’s a figure of speech for how hard life can be.” Also, that dog is really cute.
Everyone in the cast agreed that Bobby stole the show. “House of the Dog” is a name that this show could and should have, said Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon. “I held him close for a while.” He is the real show-stopper.
Bobby was so well-liked that he came back for another show on House of the Dragon. He can be seen looking as Cheese and the other royal ratcatchers are hanged by order of the crown. That’s bad luck for you.
Please. Please look out for this dog, for the love of the Old and New Gods.
I’m ready to die for him. He’s ready to sit on the Iron Throne.
House Mutt, “Always Loyal”
From stray dog to Disney star
As Bobby took over the world of House of the Dragon, many people were curious about who this skilled dog actor was. It turns out that Bobby has an amazing past.
Bobby’s life began as a hungry stray on the streets of Cyprus. After Hollywood trainer Julie Tottman saved him, he was on set of a big blockbuster just a few days later.
Bobby was cast in Cruella, Disney’s live-action prequel to 101 Dalmatians. It was the kind of “rags to riches” story that could only happen in Hollywood. Three days after being saved from the streets, he was playing with Emma Stone, who won an Oscar.
According to Trottman, Bobby is one of the easiest animals he has ever dealt with. He said this to The Mirror in 2021. “He’s so natural; he learns how to act quickly and loves it.””A rescued animal gives you a little more on set because it’s like they’ve seen bad things and are so thankful that you saved them. They love and adore you,” she said.
That first scene where they know where they’re coming from makes me cry every time… Rescue animals are often the most loyal, loving, and hardworking animals. The world throws them away, but I know from personal experience that they are worth it.
In the movie, Bobby plays Buddy, Cruella’s rescued dog. Even Cruella, who is known for being mean to dogs, couldn’t resist Buddy’s charms.
Tottman said in a behind-the-scenes video, “He’s just loved every minute.” “He’s come out of his shell completely…” He pulls me to the set. He’s just loving it so much.
Bobby really is a star. She said, “It’s like meeting Lassie.” When the movie starts, the titles should say, “And introducing Bobby as Buddy.” He’s one of the best dogs I’ve ever met, and I can’t live without him.
And when two-time Best Actress winner says you’re good, you know you’re really good in Hollywood.
A lot of people online have been moved by Bobby’s story, which they have called a “wags to riches” story:
