Canines all over the world deserve to be loved and happy all their lives.
Every day, we are reminded of the sad fact that many dogs around the world, especially older dogs and dogs with disabilities, don’t get to live the happy, full lives they deserve.
They are forgotten when it comes to adoption, and they are also often in danger of being put down.
The dogs in today’s story were lucky to be saved because they had loving humans who saw her for what she really was.
A Little Bit Different
Through their Facebook page, Greenacres Rescue told their fans about the sad story of how they saved a beautiful female spaniel puppy that had been left behind in a parking lot.
The rescue wrote in the post, “She was born with six legs and other abnormalities.”
To give the puppy a normal life, the rescue chose to take her to the vet and start a diagnosis and treatment plan. They didn’t know anything about her past life.
The dog’s name is Arie, and Mikey Lawlor from the Greenacres Rescue told the Western Telegraph that they chose that name because someone said she looked like a mermaid.
When her test results came back, the staff was glad to see that she was healthy and happy, and that the problems with her legs could be fixed medically.
“There are two more back legs on Ariel, and the beginnings of another vulva.” Because she has an extra hip joint, her pelvis hasn’t grown right. The shelter wrote, “The plan is to let her settle down after her ordeal and reevaluate her in one month with the goal of removing the extra limbs and finding out how her remaining leg works.”
New Chapter
After giving her some time to calm down and relax, she went to the vet a lot, got tests, and was referred to specialists so that her humans knew what to do.
Ariel was ready for surgery a couple of months later.
It went well with the surgery.
Dr. Aaron Lutchman, who worked on the puppy, told BBC, “She’s doing really well; she’s bounced back, and she’s a happy little dog. We hope she’s going to go on to lead a fabulous little life.”
Lawyer Lawlor also said that Ariel was walking around on her hind legs the very next day. Foster parents who loved her took her in and made sure her healing went as smoothly as possible.
It wasn’t a surprise when Ariel got better completely in just a few months. She was now ready to start a new part of her life: finding a family.
Forever Home
Since she became famous all over the world, her rescue is full of people who want to adopt her. But one stood out the most.
A family that had just lost their beloved dog was looking for another dog to help them heal, and Ariel was the perfect match!
“Ariel has already been through a lot and is loved by many.” Emma-Mary Webster wrote on Facebook, “Ariel is a beautiful, lively, and gentle soul who has been raised by a special woman named June, who has done wonders in taking care of her. She is already bringing so much joy into our lives.”
One of those stories that makes you believe in people again is Ariel’s journey.
A huge group of men came together to help this pretty girl not only get over her disability but also live a good life.
“We are truly grateful to everyone who helped make this once-threatened puppy a beloved pet,” the Greenacres Rescue said in their conclusion.
