Two hikers were shocked to find a German shepherd in trouble on the trail with a zip tie around its mouth. The dog is now in good hands, and police are looking for the person who did this.
On July 3, two rock climbers were in a rural area near Malibu Creek Canyon when they saw a sad sight: a 7-year-old German shepherd that was upset and had a zip tie around its face.
They stopped to help the dog and spent time getting him to trust them so they could take off the zip tie. After they freed his lips and gave him some food, the dog warmed up to them.
One of the hikers, Jonathan Manaoat, told KTLA, “He is such a sweet dog.” His friend and I were able to pet him, and he ate our food slowly from our hands.
They were shocked that the dog had been hurt so badly: “Someone did this on purpose,” Manaoat told the news source. “They left him behind on the side of the road, down a hill in the middle of nowhere.” They left him to suffer. They left him to die.
There was swelling and sores on the dog’s body, and it’s thought that he was introduced to poison oak.
When called, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department brought the dog to the Palmdale Animal Care Center to get help. After that, he was taken to the Agoura Animal Center of Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control.
A news release from In Defense of Animals says that the dog, who has been given the name Argon, is being tested for what may be lymphoma. Argon has been a nice dog through everything and has been getting lots of love and care.
Still no one knows who tied up Argon’s muzzle and left him out in the middle of nowhere on that hot summer day, but animal rights groups have been putting together a big prize for anyone who can help them find out who did it.
The press release says that Peace 4 Animals, In Defense of Animals, and Hollywood producer Marc Gurvitz are all giving a $12,000 reward for information. Anyone who knows anything about the case should call 415-879-6879.
“We’re thankful that these hikers and police acted quickly, but our work needs to continue,” said Fleur Dawes, Communications Director of In Defense of Animals. “Argon was left in a remote area to suffer and die.” No one who knows about this cruel act should keep quiet. We will find the person who did this horrible abuse and hold them responsible because they are a danger to others.
“Leaving a German Shepherd outside in the hot weather with his mouth tied shut over the Fourth of July weekend is a cruel and heartless thing to do.” The person who did this needs to be brought to justice as soon as possible and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Don’t worry, truth will win!” Katie Cleary, who started Peace 4 Animals and World Animal News, said this.
It breaks our hearts that someone would do something so horrible to this cute dog, but we’re glad Argon is safe now and hope the person who did it is punished!
