Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese

No need to worry, you are not losing your mind. This grilled cheese sandwich truly resembles the Virgin Mary. Back in 1994, Diane Duyser recognized the likeness, kept the sandwich, and eventually put it up for sale on eBay ten years later, asserting that it possessed magical abilities. Surprisingly, this inedible item was purchased for a whopping $28,000! It seems that even a moldy toast can be valued as much as a down payment on a house!

Justin Bieber’s Hair

It is not unexpected that Justin Bieber has a significant number of extremely dedicated fans who would be willing to pay a great deal for any items related to him. Therefore, it makes sense to use this opportunity to raise funds for an animal rescue organization by holding an auction for a lock of his hair. During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Bieber cut some of his hair and it was quickly listed for sale on eBay. Within just one hour, the bids had already reached $10,000, and ultimately, the lock of hair was sold for $40,668. The identity of the winning bidder remains unknown, but there is certainly one less lonely girl out there.

The Meaning Of Life

In 2000, a man from North Carolina claimed to have uncovered the purpose of our existence and decided to auction off this knowledge on eBay. He expressed his willingness to share this information with the person willing to offer the highest bid. Unfortunately, the bidding for this valuable item started at a mere $0.01 and disappointingly accumulated to just $3.26, nowhere near the amount Justin Bieber’s hair was sold for. Despite this, neither the buyer nor the seller have chosen to publicly disclose the man’s revelation. Perhaps, in the future, someone would think about gathering a few dollars to explore the profound meaning of life.

Air From a Kanye Concert

At a Kanye West concert, where there were countless energetic fans enjoying themselves in a close space, a unique individual decided to collect some of the air. To clarify, someone actually used a bag to capture the air at a Kanye West ‘Yeezus’ concert. At first, this strange item was available for purchase at a reasonable price of $5, but astonishingly, its value skyrocketed to an outrageous $65,000. Kim Kardashian, Kanye’s wife, humorously commented on Instagram, saying, “Wow, he has the ability to sell anything! Lol.”

Justin Timberlake’s Leftovers

During Justin Timberlake’s peak of fame in 2000, it is not surprising that his uneaten French toast fetched a price of over $1,000. After accidentally leaving it behind following an interview with a New York radio station, a resourceful DJ cleverly listed the item for sale on eBay. Showing great enthusiasm as an N*Sync fan, 19-year-old Kathy Summers purchased the leftovers for $1,025. The generous donation was then made to one of Timberlake’s preferred charitable organizations. Considering that most teenagers do not typically possess such a significant amount of money, one can only wonder about the reaction of Kathy’s parents.

Ghost In A Jar

Following allegations of frightening its owner, this ghost enclosed within a jar was listed for sale on eBay. The jar had been discovered in a deserted graveyard that was reputedly haunted. The seller, under the username Teajay101, explicitly stated that they would not assume liability if the ghost, referred to as the “black thing,” managed to escape from the jar. Additionally, the seller emphasized that all purchases were non-refundable. Despite receiving a winning bid of $55,992, the buyer ultimately did not fulfill their payment obligation, possibly due to apprehensions about possessing the spirit or the exorbitant price tag.

A Man’s Life

Did you ever ponder on whether anyone would desire to experience your life? And if so, what value would it hold? Although most of us would likely answer in the negative, Ian Usher decided to explore this question. After experiencing heartbreak, individuals typically seek a fresh beginning through various means. However, in 2008, when Ian Usher’s wife left him, he took a unique approach by putting his “entire life” up for auction, which included his residence in Perth, his possessions, his social connections, and even a trial period at his job. Ultimately, his life was purchased for $384,000, enabling him to embark on a new adventure and accomplish his 100 goals.

Corn Flake Shaped Like Illinois

Americans show great patriotism, but on occasion, they can take it to an extreme. Back in 2008, a pair of sisters from Virginia managed to sell a cornflake in the shape of Illinois. The auction for this unusual item lasted for over a week, causing much anticipation for its final sale. Melissa McIntire, one of the sisters, expressed how anxious they were throughout the entire process. Eventually, the cornflake resembling a state found its new home with a resident from Texas. This individual was the owner of a trivia Website and was collecting various memorabilia for a traveling museum. Kerr, the buyer, ended up paying a hefty sum of $1,350 for the delicate cornflake.

Britney Spears’ Used Pregnancy Test

If you become a famous pop star, it is important to be cautious about disposing of your personal belongings in public trash bins. Britney Spears made this error by throwing away a used pregnancy test in a trash can near her hotel in Los Angeles. The test was retrieved from the trash and sold to a radio station in Ottawa. Eventually, it was put up for auction on eBay and sold for a substantial amount of $5,001. However, before losing faith in humanity, it is worth noting that the proceeds from the sale were donated to charity.

Walking Billboard

In 2005, Andrew Fischer, who resided in Nebraska, decided to sell advertising space on his forehead. He offered to have a temporary tattoo on his forehead for a span of 30 days. Following multiple bids, he successfully obtained $35,375 from SnoreStop for displaying their logo. This newfound success inspired many others to pursue similar ventures. One such individual was Kari Smith, a mother who desired a brighter future for her son. In a moment of inspiration, she decided that the fastest way to raise money for her son’s college education was to become a walking advertisement. Kari received $10,000 for permanently tattooing Goldenpalace.com onto her head.

Baby Naming Rights

In 2009, Lavonne Drummond faced financial difficulties while expecting her seventh child. In an attempt to alleviate some of her money concerns, she made the decision to sell the naming rights of her unborn baby on eBay. However, eBay was not supportive of her idea and closed down her first four auctions, even though they had collectively received bids totaling more than $41,000. Finally, in August, the fifth auction successfully concluded with a winning bid of $6,800. Unfortunately, the bidder admitted that he had no intention of paying or naming Drummond’s baby, but rather wanted to assist her in her auction. Given these setbacks, Drummond eventually abandoned her plan.

Brangelina’s Breath

Both Jolie and Brad did not have any interaction with the jar and it is unlikely that they inhaled from it. Nevertheless, someone with a lot of money and lacking good judgment took things to a new extreme. This individual, who was on the lookout for celebrities, managed to capture air in a jar and sell it on eBay, falsely claiming that it might contain air molecules that had touched Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Surprisingly, this person made a total of $523 from the sale of the jar to eager buyers.

Haunted Rubber Duck

If you found the ghost in the jar to be unsettling, imagine encountering a haunted rubber ducky. Surprisingly, this haunted item was successfully sold on eBay, with the previous owner asserting that it had the ability to possess children. The original owner even provided a detailed narrative about their family’s disturbing experiences with the duck, named “Yella,” which involved the intervention of their pastor. Despite the seller’s disclaimers stating that they would not take responsibility for the duck once it was shipped and that they would not entertain inquiries or offer explanations regarding its peculiar mystique, the haunted rubber ducky received 41 bids and was eventually purchased for $107.50.

Dorito Shaped Like The Pope’s Hat

Although we may often encounter Doritos that are shaped similarly, it seems we could have potentially considered selling them on eBay as well. In 2005, GoldenPalace.com, the online casino famous for purchasing the Virgin Mary grilled cheese, bought a Dorito shaped like the Pope’s hat for an impressive $1,209. This unique Dorito, affectionately referred to as the “Pope Hat Chip,” attracted 41,000 visitors to its eBay listing. Richard Rowe, the CEO of the casino, expressed awe at the chip’s astonishing resemblance to the papal headgear in a press release.

A Grandmother

Relatives can be a mixed bag, sometimes we adore them and other times they can really get on our nerves. However, the thought of selling them is completely unheard of. A 10-year-old girl named Zoe Pemberton from England went as far as attempting to sell her grandmother on eBay, playfully describing her as both “annoying” and “cuddly.” Unfortunately for her gran, named Marian, bids for £20,000 were placed before eBay took action. The bid was shut down as it violated regulations against human trafficking, though even eBay found the situation somewhat humorous. Zoe eventually confessed that it was all just a joke.

Scarlett Johansson’s Snot

In 2008, Scarlett Johansson made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno while she was dealing with a common cold that she claimed was passed on to her by Samuel L. Jackson. During her time on the show, she decided to utilize this situation for a good cause by blowing her celebrity-generated mucus into a tissue, sealing it, and putting it up for auction. Scarlett recognized that there is an actual fascination with such unusual interests, and saw it as an opportunity to raise funds for charity. Surprisingly, the mucus-tissue auction brought in a total of $5,300, which was then donated to the USA Harvest charity. It’s interesting to think about how something as unpleasant as a common cold could end up benefiting humanity in a unique way.

An Egg In An Egg

One farmer made an interesting discovery and decided to make a profit off of it. Just like a Russian nesting doll or Kinder Surprise, this egg had something very peculiar lurking inside of it, a mutant egg. When cracked open, the egg reveals a yolk and another fully formed egg inside. To make your stomach turn even more, that smaller egg also contains a regular yolk and white. Sold for a ridiculous $75, we are not sure what the buyer’s intentions were.

Mystery Nail Clippings

While people will buy almost anything of their favorite celebrity such as hair, their flesh, or their used tissues, this list also includes their nail clippings! This one, however, was from an unknown source. Described as a “well-known deceased celebrity,” the purchaser had no idea who these belonged to, except the fact they were supposedly famous once upon a time. Whether the clippings were taken while this celebrity was alive or not is unknown, yet someone in the world wanted them for $550.

James Blunt’s Sister

James Blunt felt bad when his sister was unable to attend a funeral in Ireland as every mode of transport had been shut down. Instead of giving up, the persistent singer turned to eBay. His advertisement read, “Damsel in distress seeks knight in shining armor! Desperate to get to a funeral in southern Ireland, please help!” Mind-blowingly, Blunt’s sister was flown to Ireland on a winning bidder’s private helicopter. What’s even better – the two fell in love and ended up getting married!

A Broken Laser Pointer

Interesting fact – this was the FIRST ever item sold on eBay. This broken laser pen was listed in 1995 by the founder Pierre Omidyar. Originally known as “AuctionWeb,” Omidyar launched the site as a personal project from home. He had bought a $30 laser pointer with the intention of using it to make flashy presentations, but after breaking two weeks after it was purchased, he decided to list it, because “it would be a good way to test out AuctionWeb.” It was bought by Mark Fraser for $14.83, almost triple the price of the meaning of life.

A Human Liver

A man from Florida was surprised to find when he listed his liver on eBay that it reached an enormous $5.7 million dollars. While donor lists are extremely backlogged and available organs are in short supply, those needing a transplant may resort to desperate measures to get that vital organ they need, even paying millions of dollars for it. Unfortunately for these people, and less so for the Florida man, eBay pulled the auction from its site quickly, stating that it violated rules regulating the sale of human organs.

Britney Spears’ Chewing Gum

Oops, she did it again! Some people just can’t get enough of Britney memorabilia – they even want to get their hands on her used chewing gum! A woman who was attending a Britney concert managed to rescue a piece of bubble gum that the pop star had chewed and spat out at a concert at Wembley Arena in 2000. Whether they will frame it or chew it themselves is a question some of us never wish to know the answer to, but one crazed fan ended up paying $14,000 for it!

Gary Coleman’s Sweatpants

The late Diff’rent Strokes star listed a pair of his navy blue, size 12XL-Regular Gap Kids sweatpants signed by the former child star himself. While bids were rising rapidly, finally reaching $400,000, it became clear these were fraudulent. “If someone pays $400,000,” added memorabilia dealer Brian Chanes, “I would eat my hat.” While stage-worn Madonna wardrobe items fetch $15,000-$20,000, it didn’t seem to make sense how sweats from Coleman reached a six-figure sum. The eventual winner was Jimmy Kimmel, who paid $500.

A Cheating, Lying, Adulterous Wife

Father-of-two, Paul Osborn from the UK, suspected his wife was having an affair with a colleague. When he found confirmation after checking her emails, he decided to put her up for sale on eBay. He described her as a “lying, cheating, and adulterous” wife and started the bid off at 1 pence. This attracted worldwide attention and bids reached as high as $1,000,000. Meanwhile, Mrs. Osborn denied ever having an affair and filed a police complaint against her husband for harassment.

Guinea Pig Armor

Whether it is for Halloween, to set up a battle, or just simply for your pleasure, you can buy armor for your pet guinea pig on eBay. In 2013, an elaborate suit of armor suitable for a guinea pig was listed on the site and gained great success. The winning bid reached a crazy $24,3000! The first bidder backed out, but the item was then re-listed. This time the final price totaled $1,150. Proceeds, according to the seller, went towards the Metropolitan Rescue of Guinea Pigs.

William Shatner’s Kidney Stone

The popular actor, William Shatner, passed a kidney stone in 2006. He came up with the crazy idea of listing it on eBay and it was miraculously sold to, you guessed it, GoldenPalace.com. The online casino bid a crazy $25,000. All of the proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity. “This takes organ donors to a new height, to a new low, maybe. How much is a piece of me worth?” said Shatner. This bid was much to the disappointment of Jimmy Kimmel who said, “I want to own it.”

Leftover Brussel Sprouts

While food sells less well on eBay, if there is a good story behind it, there tends to be a better outcome. Dan Allam from Hertfordshire, England, auctioned off his uneaten sprouts from his Christmas roast. Rather than throwing it down the garbage like most would, Allam had a great idea. Last year he managed to sell two unwanted sprouts for a whopping £99.99. And now his listing of “five unwanted Christmas Brussels Sprouts” on the auction website has reached bids of at least £26. He is donating all money to the Make A Wish Foundation.
