It is probable that there will be occasions when volunteering in animal rescue will be challenging; nevertheless, there will also be times when you will experience pure joy that would not be possible without their unrelenting efforts.
In addition to his work as a volunteer at the Baie Ste Marie Animal Society, Joey Wagner is a marine biologist who hails from Nova Scotia, Canada. In 2013, Joey received a phone call about a pit bull mix dog that had been severely abused and neglected, and it wanted some tender loving care. As soon as Joey arrived, he noticed that the puppy was on its way to passing away.
Joey and the rescue crew took the puppy, whose they named Mojo, to the Parade Street Vet, PEI Small Animal Hospital in order to receive treatment for acute dehydration and demodectic mange. Within three months of his birth, he had lost all of his fur and was covered in mite bites. He was a complete and utter mess. In addition to being malnourished and living in a bad environment, his mange was made worse, and the puppy moaned in anguish while Joey assisted him in receiving treatment.
According to a post that Joey made on Facebook, “When Mojo was surrendered, it was a very fast process and we were going through a very emotional time.” We received a lot of requests to adopt him, but we decided against doing so because of the serious condition he was in that time.
During the time that Mojo was fighting for his life, Joey and Leta, his wife, fell in love with him. Mojo treated other people with kindness and demonstrated a remarkable capacity for forgiveness, despite the fact that he had been abused in the past. After hearing about his challenges, he became a beacon of hope for a great number of people.
“Mojo’s impetus to live was an incredible amount!” Joey ponders deeply.
