WHO demands immediate reopening of Rafah crossing as 60 aid trucks wait in Egypt's Al Arish

The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging for the reopening of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza. This comes after the Israeli military took control of the Palestinian side of the crossing earlier this month.

The WHO has 60 trucks loaded with humanitarian supplies waiting in the Egyptian city of Al Arish, just 23 miles from Rafah. These supplies are desperately needed in Gaza, where thousands of people require urgent medical attention. However, since the crossing was closed, it’s been impossible to evacuate patients for treatment.

The Israeli military claims to have discovered tunnels leading from Gaza into Egypt’s Sinai region. Meanwhile, the WHO warns that health facilities in Gaza are running critically low on essential supplies, including medicines and specialized care for burn victims.

A recent Israeli airstrike on a displaced persons camp in Rafah killed at least 45 people and injured over 200 more, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
