A suspected serial killer, Jesse Lee Calhoun, 39, has been indicted for three murders in the Portland area. He was arrested last year after multiple women were found dead within a 100-mile radius of the city. Calhoun faces charges of second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies and the FBI across two states.
The victims include Joanna Speaks, 32, Kristin Smith, 22, Charity Lynn Perry, 24, Bridget Leann Webster, 31, and Ashley Real, 22. Their bodies were found in wooded areas in Washington and Oregon. Calhoun has a history of prior convictions, including car theft and burglary, and received a reduced sentence in 2021.
The bodies of the victims were discovered in various locations. Charity Lynn Perry’s remains were found in a culvert at Ainsworth State Park, 35 miles east of Portland. Joanna Speaks’ remains were found near an abandoned barn in Ridgefield, Washington, 23 miles north of Portland, showing signs of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Bridget Leann Webster’s remains were found in Polk County, Oregon. Ashley Real’s remains were found in Eagle Creek, 25 miles southeast of Portland, and Kristin Smith’s remains were found in the woods in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood.
The deaths of Real and Smith are still under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities at [email protected] or Detective Stephen Gandy at [email protected].
