A rescuer or a kind person will often take in a lost puppy and keep it from having to live on the bad streets.
What’s hard to understand, though, is how hard those saves are, and how not every stray dog will get saved.
Most of the time, they won’t be saved. But for this story, we’ll talk about a police officer who found a box by the side of the road and opened it to find something inside.
A Very Hot Day
In Georgia, it was very hot when Deputy Earl Hanners found something strange next to the road.
He chose to see what it was. There was a small box just lying there. It turned out to have a puppy inside when he looked inside.
He was shocked to see that someone had just left her there since it was so hot outside.
Hansers told The Dodo, “She was locked up in a cardboard box.” Someone walked by the box and stopped when they saw the puppy inside. He then got some water, opened the box, and set it down on the side. He then called 911.
But there was something wrong. Hansers had to leave to help with a car crash, so he let someone else help her.
Hansers, on the other hand, wanted to help her, so he went back as soon as he could.
He said, “I told the guy to stop calling animal control.” I’m going to take the puppy to the vet to get checked out.
Bridget’s New Chapter In Life
He went back to get her and brought the dog to his car, where he named her Bridget. She needed to move to a new place.
He gave her a lot of food and water while she was there, and she seemed to calm down when she was with Hanners.
Since he didn’t want to leave her now that she was with him, he chose to adopt her.
Hanners was known for taking in and caring for dogs from a group called Hounds in Pounds, so she was now part of a new, big family.
They took her to a vet in Georgia to get checked out and vaccinated before he brought her home to meet the family.
After that, he made her feel right at home. Being with her new family is the best thing in the world. She got along great with the other dogs.
Hannah said, “We just let the other dogs in the house meet her last night.” When you watch them for a day or two, they become part of the pack.
It’s so great to see people like Earl Hanners who have spent their whole lives helping people and animals in need. We should all see how kind he is and remember that.
